When can I start learning how to drive?
New Hampshire does not issue learner's permits; however, a person learning to drive (regardless of the State they reside in) is permitted to drive under certain conditions. Persons whose driving privileges are currently suspended or revoked in NH or any other State, may not practice driving. What is a State Approved Education Program?
Driver Education is helpful at any age, but it is required for individuals under the age of 18 who wish to apply for a New Hampshire driver license. To meet this requirement, anyone under 18 must take an approved driver education program which will include:
In addition to the above, each student must log forty (40) additional hours of supervised driving time with a parent, guardian or other responsible adult. Ten (10) hours of the additional driving practice must be completed at night. The additional driving time must be certified by the driver and the parent or guardian on the state approved Certification of Additional Supervised Driving (Log Sheet).
What are the Drivers License Requirements for a Minor?
New Hampshire residents can start learning to drive at the age of 15½ but must be at least 16 years old to apply for a driver license. Drivers under 18 years old must complete an approved Driver Education Program and provide written permission from a parent or guardian in order to apply for a driver license. Drivers under 21 years old will be issued a Youth Operator License which will expire on the driver's 21st birthday.
